Last weekend had four big events: First, the Tigers are in the ALCS. Boy, that’s as stressful as it is exciting. Thank heavens they won tonight to make the series 1-2.
Second: It was Portland Fashion Week. How does one of the worst-dressed cities in America pull off a fashion show? Quite well, especially for being a fledgling fashion week host city. Its setting is awesome: a shipyard warehouse on the industrial Swan Island (technically a peninsula), surrounded by cranes and welders mending monstrous ships on land. (Totally reminded me of the shipyard fight scene from Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes movie.) Thursday night, my Nike co-workers Christina, Kristen, Susan and I hit the shows to catch our archrival Adidas, snowboarder Danny Kass’ Grenade line and other sportswear companies, as well as some sustainable designers. Then on Saturday, I was back again with my friend Meg to catch three Project Runways designers – Bryce Black, Jay Sario and Michael Costello – in the week’s finale show. Both nights, the cast of characters in the audience and their wacky fashions were entertainment in their own right. While I still remain galaxies away from being a fashionista, it’s hard not to love checking out beautiful clothing, sipping cocktails and gossiping with friends.
Third big event: the 40th annual Portland Marathon. Of course I didn’t run it, but Jeff and I braved the misty cold morning to root on our neighbor Daniel and our San Francisco friend Doug, who both ROCKED it. (Both turned in sub-3:30 times.) Good work, guys!
Last but not least: the Detroit Lions’ first Monday Night Football appearance in a decade. Totally worth a celebration, especially with their 4-0 record. Daniel, Lindsay, Doug, Jeff and I cheered the boys in blue and drank Widmer Oktoberfests at On Deck sports bar. I tell ya, it’s a great time to be a Detroit fan!
My life is so………boring. I can’t believe all you do. How fun!
Great time to be Milwaukee fan too! Midwest has it going on! My dad has already told Scott that if Milwaukee and Detroit are in the World Series that he’s coming up for a game. I feel a Krass/Stitle/Schwebel party….
