13 Miles, 13 Revelations

May 27, 2012 by kristikrass

We did it! My sister Shelly and I tackled The Qualifier Half Marathon together, in Mid-Michigan’s scorching 90-degree weather, no less. Of course, we did some walking, but ended up sticking together the whole time and notching a respectable 2:33:12. While the race was the main reason Jeff and I flew home to Michigan for the long weekend, we had plenty of other activities to keep us busy. And plenty of time to realize a few things… Shelly is a […]

A-Z Living

April 17, 2012 by kristikrass

Whew. It’s been a whirlwind two weeks. Easter weekend, we were in super-chill Arizona with Jeff’s fam, and last weekend, Southern California with some friends and co-workers. I tell ya, it’s amazing what a dose of sunlight will do to perk up us rain-weary Portlanders! Arizona, for us, equals pure relaxation. Jeff’s snowbird parents have a sweet condo in Fountain Hills, nestled in a small community with pools, tennis courts, a spa and fitness center just a few blocks from […]

Spending time with Grandpa Redick before we head to Saginaw Zoo Boo

Love You, Grandpa!

October 23, 2011 by kristikrass

Just returned from an impromptu trip back to Michigan – actually, I’m writing this in the Delta Sky Lounge in the Minneapolis airport, thanks to my generous seatmate who had an extra pass. I was dreading my 2.5-hour layover here, but now I get to relax, eat free food and use free Wi-Fi. Good lesson to be nice to fellow passengers! My weekend trip – which I booked on Tuesday, flew on Thursday – was a bittersweet one. Grandpa Redick […]

Swifts, Falls and Goodbyes

September 24, 2011 by kristikrass

It’s a little sad recapping the end of my family’s 10-day trip to Portland – it makes me wish we weren’t 2,300 miles apart. Seeing how quickly my nieces Ava and Macy are growing up makes it even harder. But, as Jeff says, that means we need to make the most of our visits. Which we did on my family’s last weekend in Portland. Friday was zoo day – and my parents’ 33rd anniversary. (Congrats to them!) Saturday was Columbia […]

New Niece = Hello, Michigan!

June 13, 2011 by kristikrass

Today’s my first full day back in Portland after a much-needed, lengthier-than-usual trip home to Mid-Michigan. My sister Lori and her husband Cory recently had a perfect little baby girl named Macy, and they decided Jeff and I were fit to be godparents. And godparents = special duties at Macy’s baptism = perfect excuse for a trip! I took a three-leg, red-eye flight to arrive on Tuesday, while Jeff took a two-leg, red-eye flight to join me on Friday. (Getting […]

Jeff at the scenic lookout at Pittock Mansion

Best View of the City: Found

May 22, 2011 by kristikrass

…but the caveat is, we discovered the place on a crappo, cloudy day. (Sigh.) This morning I was reviewing my heap of Groupon/Living Social buys – and cashing in soon-to-expire Fandango bucks for Thursday night Hangover II tickets – when I realized I still had two tickets to Pittock Mansion. Pittock Mansion, nestled 1,000 feet above the city in the West Hills, seems to be kind of a big deal. It shows up in the majority of the “Top 1o […]
