Seattle’s Best

May 26, 2013 by kristikrass

Last weekend, the Krass family converged in Seattle – Jeff and me from Portland, Rob and Amy from Chicago, and Bob and Chris from Fountain Hills, Ariz. The visit marked the first time we were all together since Christmas, plus it spurred a milestone for Jeff and me: It was the first time we traveled via the Amtrak Cascades train along the coast. The train ride rocked. Unlike the slower-than-driving, constantly-delayed Amtrak routes that zigzag across Michigan and surrounding states, […]

Webs Weave through Portland

April 7, 2013 by kristikrass

Our friend John Minagawa-Webster (aka Webby) and his wife Mai brought the sun (and a bottle of Four Roses single barrel bourbon) from Louisville to Portland last weekend. We were stoked to meet Mai for the first time, and of course she was awesome, but we were also overjoyed to have ridiculously perfect weather in the 60s and 70s with sun, sun, sun. Perfect weekend for a Portland immersion! John and Jeff met via Michigan State soccer, so there was […]

Garden Fresh

January 12, 2013 by kristikrass

One of the first things I do when I move to a new city is scan local museums’ and attractions’ online calendars for free admission days. Almost every major historic or artsy place offers free days, which provide a perfect opportunity to get a dose of culture without shelling out a bunch of money. I’ve had my eye on Lan Su Chinese Garden, nestled in Portland’s Old Town/Chinatown. The city-block-wide walled garden is constantly featured in “Top Things to Do in […]

Ho-ho-home

December 31, 2012 by kristikrass

It’s amazing how quickly Christmas comes and goes as the years go on. Maybe it feels even faster since our holiday centers on a speedy-yet-satisfying trip back home – the norm for my last seven Christmases (and more for Jeff). Whatever the case, I’m always super giddy to board the late-December flight east to Detroit to celebrate with the families and friends we’ve known and loved our whole lives. Disclaimer: My camera didn’t make as many appearances as it should […]

Flip cup! (Did I mention the party was drinking game-themed?)

A Thousand Words

June 13, 2012 by kristikrass

We’ve had a mishmash of entertaining activities lately – like my co-worker/friend Kristen’s b-day patio party at our place – so this time around I’ll let the photos do the talking! (And I feel like a disproportionate amount of the photos are drinking-related. Honestly, we do much more than that!) 🙂

The Trip Not Meant to Be

May 28, 2012 by kristikrass

Jeff and I had big plans for Memorial Day weekend. He, Cooper and I were going to cross the Canadian border to Vancouver, British Columbia. One of the cities at the top of our “must-see” list, and a mere 5 1/2 hours north of Portland. But…Thursday night, after booking hotels in Vancouver and neighboring Whistler, we made a disappointing discovery: Jeff’s passport expired last month. Total bummer. Lucky for us, we were already planning a Friday night stop in Seattle, […]

The whole Redick clan at Leelanau Cellars on Lake Michigan

It’s a Wonderful Life

January 2, 2012 by kristikrass

It’s difficult writing about our Christmas trip back to Michigan – there was so much fun, love and activities squeezed into the week that I can’t adequately capture it. We started our journey home the Thursday night before Christmas, taking the redeye through Vegas (our second visit that week) and arriving in Detroit at 6:30 a.m. Friday morning – kicking off some major family and friend quality time over the next seven days before heading to Chicago to ring in […]

Kickin’ It Portland-Style

May 2, 2011 by kristikrass

If there’s one thing Jeff and I like, it’s a good sports match. If there are two things, it’s sports and food. Three things – sports, food and enjoying beautiful weather. Luckily we got some of all three this weekend. We kicked off our weekend with a trip to the flagship Portland Farmers Market, which is celebrating its 20th fabulous season at Portland State University. We don’t even buy much; we just love to stroll through the city blocks full […]
