My So-Called Ski Weekend

March 16, 2013 by kristikrass

Our Thunderballs bowling team closed the season in style – not by winning the league (we might have landed last place, actually) but by celebrating with a rowdy ski weekend at Mt. Hood. After work on Friday, March 1, the seven of us – and Cooper! – trekked up to our rental log cabin in the woods of Marmot, Ore., all buzzing with the urge to let our hair down and relax. The cabin was perfect, with all the amenities you’d […]

Oh, Brother

February 11, 2012 by kristikrass

My little brother Dave finally made his way out to Portland last weekend – thanks mainly to my friend Wendi who offered a free Southwest ticket that was expiring within weeks. (So nice of her!) Dave’s only flown the Dow jets to and from Houston, so his trip to Portland was his first “real” flight. His trip involved planes, trains and automobiles: Kalamazoo to Chicago – where he spent a night with Rob and Amy – to Portland. It was […]

Slopes and Lodges

January 18, 2012 by kristikrass

We got snow! I know, I know, how terribly uninteresting, but it’s sort of a big deal here in Portland. Temps barely drop below freezing so our winters are green and rainy vs. white and snowy. (We even have a lonesome rose blooming in front of our apartment!) No snow days yet though, cross your fingers we score one someday – because yes, even Nike has an occasional snow day. Santa brought Jeff some new snowboard boots, bindings and a […]

Monkee Business

July 10, 2011 by kristikrass

Really random weekend. But that’s often the case. Jeff’s easing into his new job at Nike – yes, Nike swiped him from his consulting job at Denali – and so he’s stressing a bit. I’m trying to catch up on some reading now that my APR test is in the bag, and luckily the weather’s been perfect for some reading al fresco! Friday was the finale of Nike’s The Opening event, where they brought the country’s 150 best high school […]

Tall Boys, Sunshine and Cheese

April 24, 2011 by kristikrass

Happy Easter! It’s a rainy, Portland-y day, but boy, did we ever have some gorgeous weather the past couple days: sunny and high 60’s/low 70’s. My sister Michelle (Shelly) is in town until Tuesday, and she started with a false impression of normal weather here. Today, it was back to reality, although the rain hasn’t stopped us from plowing through tons of fun activities. On Friday, we got a double dose of visitors, when my old high school buddy Stephanie […]

Hood to Coast

February 21, 2011 by kristikrass

One of the things that has fascinated Jeff and me about Portland is its proximity to some crazy sights. One hour east is Mt. Hood, jutting nearly 12,000 feet above sea level. One hour west is the gorgeous coast of the Pacific Ocean. How cool is that? With Jeff’s brother Rob and his wife Amy in town this past weekend, we conquered them both. As an aside, there is a wicked cool relay race actually called, “Hood to Coast,” and […]
