Webs Weave through Portland

April 7, 2013 by kristikrass

Our friend John Minagawa-Webster (aka Webby) and his wife Mai brought the sun (and a bottle of Four Roses single barrel bourbon) from Louisville to Portland last weekend. We were stoked to meet Mai for the first time, and of course she was awesome, but we were also overjoyed to have ridiculously perfect weather in the 60s and 70s with sun, sun, sun. Perfect weekend for a Portland immersion! John and Jeff met via Michigan State soccer, so there was […]

Chuckles and Chepys

March 23, 2013 by kristikrass

Have I mentioned I love visitors? It makes me giddily happy when far-flung friends and family carve out a long weekend and purchase that Portland-bound flight. Big thanks to the Krass family (including cousin Linda), Redick family, Tillmans, Joey, Lesley, and the latest member of the PDX visitors club, Chepys. And there are more to come, with the Minagawa-Webster (aka Webby) duo coming next weekend – yay! Our Chicago-based buddies – and Michigan State grads – Chris and Julie Chepy rolled […]

168 Hours of Disney

March 11, 2013 by kristikrass

Y’know when you flip through photos from a super fun vacation, and you feel that pang of quasi-homesickness to be back in that moment? That’s the deal with my recent Walt Disney World trip with my extended fam. The last time I visited Disney World, I was 15ish with three younger siblings in tow and a best bud Jenny along for the fun. Now, I’m (cough) considerably older with two awesome nieces who are at prime ages for Disney, so […]

Thunderballs

February 3, 2013 by kristikrass

What do you do when winter hits, bringing dark evenings, chilly temps, and a dearth of festivals and other fun events? Head to the bowling alley. Jeff and I are in the thick of a Monday night bowling league through Recesstime Sports, a local organization that keeps old people like us moving in “alternative” sports such as kickball, ping pong, dodgeball and something called mushball. Where bowling leagues back in the Midwest usually stretch months and months, this league lasts […]

Ho-ho-home

December 31, 2012 by kristikrass

It’s amazing how quickly Christmas comes and goes as the years go on. Maybe it feels even faster since our holiday centers on a speedy-yet-satisfying trip back home – the norm for my last seven Christmases (and more for Jeff). Whatever the case, I’m always super giddy to board the late-December flight east to Detroit to celebrate with the families and friends we’ve known and loved our whole lives. Disclaimer: My camera didn’t make as many appearances as it should […]

Thankful

December 2, 2012 by kristikrass

Two years running, Jeff and I have escaped the cold and rain to spend Thanksgiving in a hot locale with his family. This year, it was at Jeff’s parents’ snowbird home Fountain Hills, Arizona, and last year was Cabo, which is near impossible to top. Somehow I didn’t end up taking a bunch of pictures of our activities – I was too busy soaking in the relaxing, fun times with the Krasses in the 80-degree heat. Thanksgiving offers a great opportunity to […]

Krasses in the House

November 10, 2012 by kristikrass

Visitors make me so happy. Not only do we get to spend time with some of our favorite people in world, but we also get to pack in a boatload of exploring! Last weekend, Jeff’s parents came to town – their third trip to the Rose City after their Oct. 2011 visit, Chris’ April 2011 visit and Bob’s Jan. 2011 visit (our first visitor in our new city). With this crew, y’know we hit some bars and restaurants. We commenced […]

Mahalo, Maui

October 28, 2012 by kristikrass

It pains me a bit to write this blog post…it’s rainy and 60 degrees outside here in Portland, which makes it hard to shuffle through the gorgeous photos from our trip to Maui and remember the awesome times we had with Rob and Amy. (Sigh.) It was sooo much fun. Jeff, Rob, Amy and I booked our first trip to Hawaii to celebrate our anniversaries – our third anniversary was August 22, and Rob and Amy’s fifth was October 26. […]

Kristi and Lesley’s Excellent Adventure

October 21, 2012 by kristikrass

The first weekend of October brought an awesome milestone: The first major visit to Portland from a girl friend of mine from back home. Yay! Welcome, Lesley! Lesley and I are Pinny High grads, cheerleading buddies and we lived in Chicago at the same time. It was great getting her out to the West Coast – and witnessing her first visit to the Pacific Ocean! We had 48 hours and a lot of ground to cover. First stop: lunch at […]
