Chuckles and Chepys

March 23, 2013 by kristikrass

Have I mentioned I love visitors? It makes me giddily happy when far-flung friends and family carve out a long weekend and purchase that Portland-bound flight. Big thanks to the Krass family (including cousin Linda), Redick family, Tillmans, Joey, Lesley, and the latest member of the PDX visitors club, Chepys. And there are more to come, with the Minagawa-Webster (aka Webby) duo coming next weekend – yay! Our Chicago-based buddies – and Michigan State grads – Chris and Julie Chepy rolled […]

And We Shall Feast

September 23, 2012 by kristikrass

This weekend marks the inaugural Feast Portland, presented by Bon Appétit magazine. Since Portland is home to amazing vineyards, more breweries than any other city in the world, local seafood, and produce that grows practically year-round, a few people thought it’s high time we get our own world-class celebration of food, drink and everything else that makes Portland awesome. Jeff and I kicked off the festivities with a feast of a different sort: Dinner at Jessica’s apartment with her friends Todd […]

Couldn't ask for a more beautiful day

So Long, Summer!

September 9, 2012 by kristikrass

As summer fades into fall, Oregon is THE place to be. Glorious weather! We scored mid-80s for Labor Day weekend, the temps peaked at 95 degrees (dry, toasty and bug-free) mid-week, and then 80s this weekend. And we made the most of it. Before Lindsay and Daniel jetted off to Greece for a wedding and yoga training (lucky bums!), they joined us for some Labor Day weekend wine-tasting. We packed our picnic basket with cheese, bread and other tasty wine accompaniments […]

It’s a Wonderful Life

January 2, 2012 by kristikrass

It’s difficult writing about our Christmas trip back to Michigan – there was so much fun, love and activities squeezed into the week that I can’t adequately capture it. We started our journey home the Thursday night before Christmas, taking the redeye through Vegas (our second visit that week) and arriving in Detroit at 6:30 a.m. Friday morning – kicking off some major family and friend quality time over the next seven days before heading to Chicago to ring in […]

Pinots and Puppeteers

October 8, 2011 by kristikrass

The Krass family knows how to pack in some good times. My in-laws, Bob and Chris Krass, swung through Portland last weekend, and I think I’m still recovering from all the action. From wine-tastings to a bizarre fashion event, it was a weekend to remember. Bob and Chris arrived Friday evening, and we immediately kicked off a pub crawl after the Tigers’ game was rained out. We took advantage of Brix Tavern’s $3 surprise beers in a bag (Jeff pulled […]

Swifts, Falls and Goodbyes

September 24, 2011 by kristikrass

It’s a little sad recapping the end of my family’s 10-day trip to Portland – it makes me wish we weren’t 2,300 miles apart. Seeing how quickly my nieces Ava and Macy are growing up makes it even harder. But, as Jeff says, that means we need to make the most of our visits. Which we did on my family’s last weekend in Portland. Friday was zoo day – and my parents’ 33rd anniversary. (Congrats to them!) Saturday was Columbia […]

How the Redicks Do Portland

March 19, 2011 by kristikrass

I’m still basking in the goodness that was my parents’ first visit to Portland. (Among a couple other firsts for them.) Last week, I went from a two-day offsite meeting at the heavenly Allison Inn in Oregon wine country to meeting Jeff and my parents for a five-day adventure. It came and went so quickly but we sure packed in some good stuff! After my parents arrived around noon on Thursday, Jeff, Mom and Dad jumped right into Portland culture […]
