Football-mania in Madrid

April 27, 2014 by kristikrass

I’m kicking myself once more. After spending a handful of days in breathtaking Barcelona last month and returning with barely any photos to show for it, I swore I’d snap more shots when I visited Madrid on April 21-26. How can I go anywhere in Europe – which I love to pieces and firmly feel like everyone should get a chance to visit – and not take a million pics of the sights? Especially in the hometown of my old Brussels-based […]

‘Zona, ‘Lona and Home

March 16, 2014 by kristikrass

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind. Jeff and I spent a long weekend in Arizona with the Krass fam, I buzzed through Barcelona for a work trip, and now we’re back in PDX, where spring is just blowing up. This place is flower-rama, pollen and spores and all kind of things billowing into the air. Apparently, according to the ear, nose and throat doc I visited last week, I’ve developed allergies during my last three years in this […]

The Heat Is On

July 5, 2013 by kristikrass

I’ve been slacking on the ole blog lately. Who wants to sit inside on the computer when it’s ridiculously beautiful outside? Oh yeah, and I recently found out all my computer time probably made me a partial blinker, which is killing my meibomian glands and drying out my eyes. Swell. The result: I now need to do blink exercises, use eyedrops for a bit, and I got a $1,500 Lipiflow treatment to get those little glands pumping again. Lesson for […]

Olympic Bound

June 30, 2012 by kristikrass

Last week, Jeff and I got a taste of the impending London Olympics. On June 21, Nike – for the first time ever – hosted an official U.S. Olympic Trials event on campus. The event: hammer throw, which surprisingly doesn’t involve real hammers but heavy balls on wires. Thousands of people turned out to watch, and Nike employees drifted from their offices to grab some lunch and watch the best hammer throwers in the country duke it out for a […]

Mishmashiness

November 15, 2011 by kristikrass

The last couple weeks have been a little challenging. Different. Interesting in some ways, heartbreaking in others. First, my Grandpa Redick died a little over a week ago after a several-month fight with myelodysplastic syndrome. I was in Michigan exactly two weeks before that, and he was moving around (slowly), talking, watching football…and two weeks later, he was gone. Luckily he passed away peacefully in his bed, holding hands with my sister and my aunt, surrounded by family members. I […]

The Lions cheering section at On Deck (although we weren't the only ones!)

Catwalks and Long Runs

October 11, 2011 by kristikrass

Last weekend had four big events: First, the Tigers are in the ALCS. Boy, that’s as stressful as it is exciting. Thank heavens they won tonight to make the series 1-2. Second: It was Portland Fashion Week. How does one of the worst-dressed cities in America pull off a fashion show? Quite well, especially for being a fledgling fashion week host city. Its setting is awesome: a shipyard warehouse on the industrial Swan Island (technically a peninsula), surrounded by cranes and […]

Big ol' crowd at the Portland Polish Fest

Dzień Zabawy Niedziela

September 28, 2011 by kristikrass

In plain English: Sunday Funday! Last week provided a bevy of memorable moments, punctuated by a Sunday celebration of my heritage 🙂 at the 18th Annual Portland Polish Fest. More to come on that later. Today: After a full day of writing at work, here I am, writing again – how do I have any words left in me? I’m waiting for Jeff to finish a conference call with some China telecom guys, so I headed to Starbucks to write […]

Crowds watching the surf competition on Huntington Beach

Surfing Safari

August 13, 2011 by kristikrass

The last two weeks have been nutty, mainly for one reason: Nike U.S. Open of Surfing. I got the fabulous opportunity  to head to Huntington Beach, California, to report (write stories) on the nine-day event for Nike employees. I flew down for four days of behind-the-scenes access to what I now think is the coolest event ever. More than 750,000 people on 14 acres of Pacific Ocean beach. A high school fashion design show, a skateboarding bowl, a BMX contest, […]

Jeff and I enjoying The Monkees concert

Monkee Business

July 10, 2011 by kristikrass

Really random weekend. But that’s often the case. Jeff’s easing into his new job at Nike – yes, Nike swiped him from his consulting job at Denali – and so he’s stressing a bit. I’m trying to catch up on some reading now that my APR test is in the bag, and luckily the weather’s been perfect for some reading al fresco! Friday was the finale of Nike’s The Opening event, where they brought the country’s 150 best high school […]
